Courage

What is the most courageous thing you have ever done?

Now, wait……………………..really…………………..what is the most courageous thing you have ever done?

When most people define courage they think of bravery and putting oneself in harm’s way for the sake of another.  One definition that we have especially appreciated says"
This week we both have taken a step of faith, which is a courageous thing.  I (Phyllis) started being involved in a girls Bible study.  There are a variety of girls attending which includes High School girls and fellow co-workers on the teaching staff.  This is a stretch because I do not have much contact with anyone in the high school.  The elementary school and the high school are in separate buildings.   In this study we are taking Scripture and discussing it with the group of ladies present.  We also get to share prayer requests and life circumstances.  This is a big opportunity to invest in the lives of these High School girls.  While I am scared and intimidated on one level, I also know that these precious souls are MORE important than my insecurities and doubts.

I (Brian) had the opportunity to lead a study this week.  The study is called "Stepping Up".  It is a video series that is done by Dennis Rainey with Family Life Today.  This study is about unpacking Biblical manhood and what it means to be a godly, courageous man in today’s world.  This challenges men to step up, disciple a younger generation, as well as look to the future and what kind of legacy they want to leave.  This is a very well done study.  I was able to go through most of it at our home church (First Baptist Church of Waterville) before coming to Chile.  This is a great opportunity to call young men to something else than we see in this world.
If the video does not show up it can be seen at either of the links below:

To God be the glory at our first meeting yesterday we had a great turn out....there were 14 guys from the High School that showed up.  Over the next 10 weeks I will get the opportunity to share, learn, guide, and grow along side of these young men.
There are many questions that are asked after the video but some are really thought provoking.  We took one of these questions for our intro……….What is the most courageous thing you have ever done?

Please pray for us as we continue to step out in courage and faith that God  will strengthen and provide and give us what we need to lead well for the sake of His name!
